The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is responsible for defining and publishing Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes. They also annually compile wage data from employers.

The data collected by the BLS forms the basis of prevailing wage determinations made by the OFLC. This wage data helps determine the prevailing wages for specific occupations in various geographic areas.
